In 2002, the Anaheim Angels, in their 42nd season, clinched their first American League pennant and World Series title. They finished the regular season 99-63, securing a wild card playoff spot. Outfielder Garret Anderson led the team with 123 RBIs and a .539 slugging percentage, earning AL All-Star and Silver Slugger honors. Jarrod Washburn anchored the pitching staff with an 18-6 record and a 3.15 ERA. In the postseason, the Angels defeated the Yankees and Twins to win the AL pennant. Trailing 3-2 in the World Series against the Giants, they rallied to force a Game 7, which they won 4-3. The Orange County Register hailed their victory with the headline '7th Heaven'. This season also marked the debut of the Angels' current uniforms, colors, and halo insignia, and was the last full season under Disney's ownership.
